As a child, I heard stories about volleyball. I like sports, but I never had a chance to join any clubs when I was little. My mom is a first generation immigrant and moved to United States in her early twenties. Not knowing where to go or how to start, club volleyball seemed inaccessible to us. At age of twelve, after playing volleyball in a gym with my classmate who was a volleyball club player, I decided to reach out to my school PE coach. I got the opportunity to join a few trainings in a nearby club. I remember the training and everything about that day. The club coach (Coach Tony) looked at me and said "you should be in club." That changed my junior high school years. I was then invited to play with their second team as a setter. The following year, I made the first team. I had these huge expectations and was very excited to play for them. Most players had been in club volleyball since very young age. I knew that I had a lot to learn, but I also believed that I would eventually catchup through hard-work and dedication. I always had a ball nearby - waking up every early morning to self practice in the backyard, doing additional trainings as much as possible seven days a week. I love volleyball. At the beginning it seemed far to reach, but believing in yourself and having a willingness and determination to work hard, my dream can become a reality.
When I arrived in Woodlands Revolution, I had this great opportunity to play in a higher level with their national teams. I remember my first days at the club, just being there and meeting all the amazing players, so many great players and wonderful coaches. I adapted to the team very quickly. We were full of light with a strong desire to carry out the best season on record. I learned a lot from all the coaches and players. I am grateful of the opportunity since the first day I arrived and very fortunate to have experienced so many great moments with the team and to have conquered so many great things together.
That season, for the first time in the club's 15 years history, our team, 15 Adidas qualified and received a bid to the Girls Junior National Championship in Chicago.
In 2023, towards the end of a record season, Houston Skyline acquired Woodlands Revolution, making the takeover one of the most dominant in Texas club volleyball history. Coming to Revolution was a big step for me and continuing to be able to play for Houston Skyline Woodlands is one of the most important decisions and opportunities, not only in terms of volleyball but my personal growth as well. I learned a lot through the transition and process, adapting to the new club culture and growth.
In 2023, I was offered to join Houston Skyline Woodlands first team - 16 Royal - for the 23-24 season. 2023 season was a memorable one. We worked through one of our teammates' injuries and adjusted. We also won a bid to the Nationals. We have grown stronger as a team. I am very proud of what we have accomplished this season. This will mark my second year with the team and with both years qualified for USAV Nationals as the starting setter.
In the upcoming seasons, my goal is to keep fighting with my team on the court and give my best to the program.
I appreciate all the opportunities I have had and my family who's been so supportive. My mom would always give me a critique or two after every game even if I have 10 aces or incredible sets. And we always end up smiling and laughing, talking about things I need to improve. I have always wanted to get better and it's one of my greatest motivations till this day - doesn't matter how you start but how you finish.
